WES project celebrates its impact at final conference
On 8 October, the final conference of the Water and Environment Support (WES) project, was held in Athens. The event marked the conclusion of a five-and-a-half-year journey dedicated to addressing water scarcity and environmental pollution in North Africa and the Middle East. The project provided technical assistance to eight partner countries through over 100 targeted activities, engaging around 2,200 trainees through various workshops, training sessions, and peer exchanges.
ACR+ proudly contributed by organising technical missions and regional activities on waste management, engaging its members, such as Region Sud on construction and demolition waste and Sardegna on organic waste management. The conference, which gathered 60 stakeholders from 16 countries, featured presentations highlighting WES’s achievements, including efforts to treat and reuse wastewater, reduce non-revenue water, and optimise water use in agriculture. Additionally, participants discussed the project’s impact on promoting public-private partnerships, green financing, and circular economy models. The event concluded with recognition of the project's contributions to regional environmental goals, including the Mediterranean’s GreenerMed 2030 Agenda.
If you would like to know more, the project has published a booklet and video.
