During the Olympic and Paralympic Games, the City of Paris has established celebration sites where attendees can enjoy drinks and meals without plastic packaging, emphasizing the use of reusable containers like cups and bowls, which should be returned after use. Recycled plastic bottles are avoided in favour of more sustainable options, with beverages available without plastic bottles at eight competition sites. Reusable water bottles are permitted at all sites, excluding glass or sizes exceeding 75 cl, and free access to water fountains is provided. Attendees can bring their own containers and receive beverage discounts if they opt not to purchase a container. Additionally, a marathon and 10 km race open to the public are organised along the official event's course, featuring a zero plastic initiative where reusable cups replace plastic bottles, eliminating nearly 400 000 bottles.
