New reports and analysis of regional circular bioeconomy systems in six countries

The BIOTRANSFORM project has updated two significant reports that provide a comprehensive analysis of the current state of linear fossil-based economies and the development of circular bioeconomies across Europe. The first, report on limits of the linear fossil economies, examines the environmental, economic, and social limits of linear fossil-based systems. By analysing data from six European case study regions, the report identifies major challenges and barriers to sustainability within these economies. The findings highlight the need for a transition to circular bio-based systems to mitigate the adverse impacts of linear systems.

The second, report on current status of development of EU regional circular bioeconomies, maps the status of circular bioeconomies in six European regions, focusing on the challenges and potential for further development. The report outlines the methodologies used to assess policy measures, technologies, and biomass residues, offering a detailed comparison of regions with varying levels of circular bioeconomy integration. Key findings from desk research and stakeholder feedback sessions underscore the importance of tailored policy measures and regional collaboration to facilitate the transition from linear fossil-based economies to sustainable circular bio-based systems. These reports provide crucial insights and recommendations for policymakers, aiming to support informed decision-making and the adoption of innovative governance models across Europe.
