Building a sustainable future for waste management and circular economy in Indonesia

ACR+ recently participated in the expert panel “Towards Inclusive and Resilient Cities: Ecosystem and Waste Management for a Sustainable Future” in Bali, Indonesia under the framework of the Climate Resilient and Inclusive Cities (CRIC) project. Organised by UCLG ASPAC, the conference brought together delegations from ten Indonesian cities and various international organisations to discuss waste management and circular economy initiatives. ACR+ presented its training programme on solid waste management and waste assessment tools designed for CRIC pilot cities. ACR+ member Odense also shared best practices from its region. The conference facilitated knowledge exchange between local organisations promoting circular economy in Bali, such as PPLH, EcoBali, and MPH, and international donors like GIZ Indonesia and UNDP.

Following the conference, ACR+ undertook two field missions to observe circular economy practices in action. The first visit was to Tegal Tugu village, where discussions with the village head and observations focused on the implementation of mandatory source separation of waste. The second visit explored the Urban Biologist premises, a small-scale composting facility processing food waste collected door-to-door. These field visits provided valuable insights into local initiatives and the practical application of circular economy principles in Bali.
