ACR+ member ENT conducted a study on behalf of the government of Catalonia to assess the potential of public procurement processes in promoting waste reuse. Focused on four key sectors (furniture, ICT equipment, works, and textiles) the study assessed both the Catalan public sector and European best practices. The findings indicate that while Catalonia currently lags in utilising public procurement for promoting reuse, simple adjustments to procurement procedures and clauses can have a significant impact. The exception is in the procurement of works, which involves greater complexity. Catalonia aims to enhance economic and environmental sustainability in reuse centers by applying insights from this analysis, with the goal of increasing the volume of materials prepared for reuse through public procurement.
