Recognising the responsibility and obligation of municipalities to collect textile waste as of 1 January 2025, LIPOR organised a Participatory Workshop "Sustainable Strategies for Textiles and Post-Consumer Textile Waste". This event focused on presenting and exchanging initiatives, concluding with a brainstorming session to discuss ideas, challenges, and research needs regarding Ecological Public Procurement, Prevention and Reuse, Deposit and Collection Solutions, Routing Solutions, and Citizen Engagement. The workshop also featured a presentation by NITextile (a spin-off of the University of Minho dedicated to research and sustainable development in the Textile and Footwear sectors), which highlighted the distinction between pre and post-consumer waste, the implementation of Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) in the textile sector, the importance of design in waste prevention, and offered some solutions for textile and footwear waste treatment.
