In 2022, ACR+ member OVAM drafted a new implementation plan for household waste and similar industrial waste, the “Local Materials Plan”. The draft plan was submitted for public review and comments were received from several local authorities and other stakeholders. Based on these reactions, OVAM has adjusted the text and resubmitted it to the Regional Government. Pending the final approval of the new plan by the Flemish government, the implementation plan 2016-2022 remains in force.
 
Many local authorities are particularly eagerly awaiting the final decisions on bio-waste collection. All municipalities will have to separately collect bio-waste from citizens from 2024 onwards.
