ACR+ member EMULSA has developed an information and public awareness campaign on the separate collection of organic waste in the 1,300 organic bins in the urban area of Gijón, to be recycled into biogas and composted. According to EMULSA's statistics, Gijón has a recycling rate of 37% when it should be at 50%. These data indicate that recycling in Gijón is tending to stagnate or fall slightly, after several years of sustained growth, possibly due to changes in consumer habits following the pandemic and to the fact that citizens are not separating organic waste. EMULSA data show that only 10% of the organic waste generated in the municipality is being separated.
