On average, every year a Dutch person throws about fourteen kilos of clothing into the bin and only about 5% of the clothes that are sold consist of a small percentage of recycled textile. In the National Week of Second-hand Textiles, which takes place from 20 to 27 April 2021, attention is drawn to reusing and recycling clothing due to the huge impact clothing production has on the environment.

There are various initiatives in ACR+ member Cleantech Region, regarding the reuse of textiles. The Salvation Army is building a new national sorting centre for used textiles at Deventer and part of the textile will then be sold in the Salvation Army's ReShare shops. There are also other smaller scale initiatives in the region. MoedersMooistes.nl in Zutphen makes new bags and other utensils from used textiles, Circular Booster from Apeldoorn processes used textiles into a circular lamp and Appel & Ei, in Eefde has already opened 17 shops selling used clothing nationwide.
