ACR+ member the municipality of Viana do Castelo (SMSBVC) has seen an increase of 14% in the selective collection and separation of recyclable waste, namely paper / cardboard, plastic / metal and glass during the first half of 2019, compared to the same period of 2018. During these six months, 29 kilos of waste per inhabitants was selectively collected. If this trend is kept, it is expected that at the end of the year 66 kilos per inhabitant will be separated. Paper / board increased by 22%, followed by plastic / metal, which grew by 13%, and glass, which grew by 7%. Around 595 ecopoints are installed throughout the municipality, corresponding to 1 ecopoint per 143 inhabitants.
 
The current Strategic Urban Solid Waste Management Plan (PERSU 2020) set for selective collection a target of 45 kilos per inhabitant by 2020 in the whole of mainland Portugal.
