For 6 months ACR+ member Barcelona Municipality will be testing a new system for selective waste collection through mobile platforms in the neighbourhood of Bon Pastor. This test will help the municipality to reach the objectives of its Zero Waste Strategy and put an end to the current stagnation of the level of selective waste collection in the city (around 36%) to reach 60% of waste selectively collected, in line with the requirements of both the European Union and the Waste Management Plan of Catalonia.

The mobile units will be installed every day, from Monday to Saturday, from 18h00 to 23h00. A specific calendar for the collection has been set with a different schedule for each fraction. A mobile collection system represents several benefits: more convenient for users as the containers are installed close to the habitations; the public space is free once the containers are removed; higher quality of the waste collected, in particular for organic waste; improvement of air quality and reduction of the noise level as the containers are manoeuvred with electrical trucks
