The 22 January 2019 marked the start of construction for the North London Heat and Power Project (NLHPP) in Edmonton. ACR+ member North London Waste Authority (NLWA) has entered into a contract to prepare the site in advance of construction of a replacement Energy Recovery Facility (ERF) for the existing Energy from Waste (EfW) facility. The works have been scheduled to take place over the next ten years and have been phased to allow the existing EfW facility to continue to operate during this time.

The current facility has served to generate electricity from north London’s waste for over 45 years and is reaching the end of its useful life. The new ERF facility is expected to become operational in 2025 and use advanced technology to offer a more efficient service to residents to deal with north London’s waste.
