Urban REC 3 ENG small

ACR+ recently issued a survey on recommendations for EU legislation on bulky waste and is looking for feedback from its members.

Important quantities of bulky waste are generated each year, especially in urban areas, but most of it is going to landfills despite its potential for reuse and recycling. The URBANREC project aims to tackle the underlying reasons for this by addressing logistics and valorisation routes for recovered waste fractions. The project also aims to propose recommendations for a European legislation addressing bulky waste. For this purpose, a working group on legal issues has been set within URBANREC. The group involves representatives of local and regional authorities, EU institutions, federations of producers and recyclers and NGOs.

This survey follows the fourth meeting of the Legal Working Group held in April 2019 which purpose was to discuss draft recommendations. The survey aims to provide additional feedback on the proposed recommendations, addressing issues like a harmonised definition of bulky waste, separation of bulky waste, eco-design of bulky products, support to reuse, use of economic instruments, etc. The recommendations will be finalised after approval by the URBANREC consortium and will be presented to the European institutions during the project’s final conference in Brussels held in fall 2019.

The survey is accessible here and you have until Monday 27 May 2019 to provide your feedback.
