UrbanWaste

The URBAN-WASTE project progresses towards the next stage - implementation and monitoring of measures and actions identified to improve waste management in the project's 11 pilot cities and beyond - with Nicosia hosting the 4th Mutual Learning event.

The Mutual Learning event focused on diversifying the good practices and experiences already existing across Europe. The topics discussed during the event were:

  • Nicosia’s waste management practices;
  • Littering in coastal areas and marine litter – problems addressed by two projects: BLUEISLANDS (developed by ACR+) and Consumeless;
  • Waste management solutions for the camping sited and camping resorts as developed by the French EkoVerde.

Additionally, a workshop on business model design and co-design was provided by Consulta Europa and ACR+ member Ordif to identify the potential added values of the measures the pilots are going to implement in economic, social and environmental terms, as well as to develop the competences and the network the pilots might be needing and define potential users and costumers.

On the second day, a study visit to the mechanical biological treatment plant was organised followed by a lecture on implementation and monitoring of the chosen measures.

The next open Mutual Learning event and Municipality Forum will be taking place in Nice, France in January 2018.
