ACR+ member Provincie Fryslân in the Netherlands is taking a leading role in the national approach to biobased construction. In response to the National Biobased Building Plan, key players in Fryslân's biobased chains gathered to discuss and implement concrete actions. With a budget of EUR 200 million from the Climate Fund to drive biobased construction, Fryslân aims to accelerate the use of biogenic materials in building projects. The national initiative focuses on building regional and national chains, demand activation, industry development, innovation, knowledge and learning programs and creating favorable conditions. The goal is to speed up ambitions and make significant strides in the transition towards a circular economy. The use of biobased materials in construction offers various benefits, including new income streams for farmers, a positive impact on a healthier living environment, and a sustainable solution for the construction sector through CO2 storage.
