The reform of separate waste collection by ACR+ member Bruxelles Propreté came into force on 15 May 2023. The Agency notes that the reform is increasingly better understood by the inhabitants of Brussels and a first quantified assessment is already available. Regarding the introduction of food waste sorting, between 15 May and 15 June 2023, 1 097 tonnes of food waste were collected. For the same period in 2022, this figure amounted to 463 tonnes, an increase of 137%. Since May, Bruxelles Propreté has delivered more than 32 000 organic waste containers to municipalities and their recycling parks. In addition, Brussels citizens must now sort various types of plastic packaging into their specific bag. This has increased from 1 440 tonnes collected between 15 May and 15 June 2022 to 1 640 tonnes in the same period in 2023, an increase of 14%.
