The International Compost Awareness Week (ICAW) is an initiative that takes place during the first week of May to inform and promote the use of compost.  ACR+ member ARC encourages companies, municipalities and citizens to get involved in actions like organising workshops, open doors events and giving out compost, focused on the circular process of organic matter.

In the 2021 edition, ARC has carried out the following actions:

  • Publication of a video that compiles 25 years of the management of biowaste in Catalonia (1996-2021) and which also includes real life experiences of using compost. The first experiences of separate collection of biowaste started in 1996, and after 25 years Catalonia has more than 800 municipalities involved. The video is also available in two parts, the history of the 25 years and the real life experiences with the compost.
  • Online seminar on the use of organic amendments for soil restoration where different experiences such as those on roadside slopes and in mines were presented. During this, ARC shared a video related to this theme.
  • Instagram contest FEM COMPOST where people could post images on the theme of compost. The prize was three baskets of compost-fertilized fruit and vegetables.
  • In the ARC entrance hall there was a small exhibition on the theme compost where the staff could take home and use small bags of compost from biowaste.
  • ARC has been very active on social networks with hashtag #ICAW2021 posting and sharing the activities of other organisations and people.
