Sofa Project
“SOFA Project” was founded in Bristol in 1982 as the 'Shifting Old Furniture Around' project and has flourished ever since. “SOFA Project” is a social enterprise that supplies second hand furniture, household goods and domestic electrical appliances to people in conditions of need. The enterprise collects items and WEEE waste from residential and commercial donors and sell them. Electrical items are checked and prepared for re-use. Every electrical item is function-tested. All electrical goods sold by SOFA Project are guaranteed for the period stated on the appliances and the receipts. Items are also sold on-line and thanks to the SOFA card scheme people with a low income get discount for the goods. Soft furnishings must have safety labels which state "Carelessness Causes Fire", complying with the 1988 Fire Safety Regulations. SOFA works in partnership with several companies and also with several local charities.
