FUTURE Logotype

On 27 September 2017, ACR+ went to Valencia for a meeting of the LIFE FUTURE project partners. In addition to discussions on the upcoming tasks for the project, this meeting was the opportunity for partners to discover the first beta version of the GUF Tool, developed by Universitat Jaime I.
The GUF Tool is an online tool to support public bodies during the decision making process of purchasing more environmentally friendly urban furniture.
So far, the team is focusing on developing the part reserved to procurers. It will cover two main functionalities:

  1. Generation of environmental criteria to include in the offers;
  2. Comparison and ranking of different products depending on their ecological characteristics.

 During the meeting, a live demonstration of the first functionality took place. When entering the section related to the generation of environmental criteria, users have the possibility to search and extract a list of criteria, browsing either by material or by products. When selecting a product, the user then see displayed a list of materials which can be used for this product. For each material, criteria to include in a green public procurement offer are listed, with the possibility to select (or not) those which will be compulsory. Each criterion comes with a full description as well as the list of evidences which have to be provided to certify that the product is complying with these criteria. Users have the possibility to download the final document to include it directly in their offer and to download a checklist with the evidences they should receive for each criterion. This functionality can also be used by urban furniture suppliers to check if their products are complying with the criteria selected by the procurers and if they have the right documentation.

A testing period is scheduled in the upcoming months, once all the functionalities of the GUF Tool will be developed. A call will then be launched for public authorities willing to test the GUF Tool, support its validation and get trained for using it. Interested organisations can already make sure they will be kept informed of these different steps by becoming a LIFE FUTURE stakeholder.
