ACR+ member Paris sustainable food plan 2022-2027 sets targets for municipal catering, including 100% sustainable, 75% food labelled as organic, 100% seasonal products and 50% produced within 250 km of Paris. One of the Plan's commitments is to recover 100% of the food waste produced locally in order to put an end to the incineration of bio-waste that can be recovered, in particular by returning organic matter to the soil. Since 2018, Paris has been collecting food waste from schools, which produces more than 10 tonnes per year. In 2022, almost 500 tonnes of food waste were collected from schools and universities to be recovered through methanisation. From September 2023, school canteens producing more than 5 tonnes will be targeted by this new set of measures.
