ACR+ member EMULSA has installed 350 new containers for the separate collection of organic waste in some neighbourhoods and areas of the city of Gijón, therefore offering this service to an additional 42,516 inhabitants.

From 18 March 2019 until the end of April, EMULSA is developing a public information and awareness-raising campaign aimed at the residents of these areas to explain the operation of the new service. This includes talks in neighbourhood associations, information points in areas of great affluence, workshops in schools, advertising in the media, and so on.

With this extension, the third since the first pilot project in the Pumarín Polygon three years ago, EMULSA is offering a service of organic waste collection to 111,000 residents of Gijón, so approximately 40% of the registered population, thanks to 711 dedicated containers.

It is foreseen that the service will be offered to the entire urban area by 2020. In 2018, 710 tonnes of organic waste were collected in Gijón in 2018.
