From 26 to 29 November 2018, ACR+ member the Municipality of Lisbon welcomed the URBAN-WASTE project consortium for a four-day long meeting on the occasion of the 3rd General Assembly of the project and several other events around it.

The General Assembly took place on the second day, following a Steering committee meeting. It brought together a large variety of guests. Representatives of the Portuguese municipalities of Porto and Leieria, and representatives of SMEs and private companies came to Lisbon to learn from the project and explore potential cooperation. The dedicated project partners shared their plans and approaches for maximising the use of obtained data, results and outcomes of the implementation phase. These will compose the Guidelines for City Managers, a comprehensive publication foreseen for May 2019 to ensure the multiplication and reproduction of the URBAN-WASTE measures and strategies in other cities and regions.

The third day was dedicated to the 10th Mutual Learning event, titled “Good practices in waste management as change makers in tourism”. A whole set of practices from the cities of Lisbon (winner of the 2020 European Green Capital award), ACR+ members Paris and Warsaw but also from representatives of the private sector was showcased. The like-minded project URBANWINS closed the meeting with suggestions for transforming cities in line with circular economy principles.

On 29 November 2018, the end of the meeting took place at Lisbon’s municipal library where the 11 URBAN-WASTE cities and regions presented their own developments to each other. This offered the opportunity to set the date of the last Mutual Learning event and meeting before the Final Conference, taking place in Brussels on 7 May 2019. The next meeting will take place in Dubrovnik in March 2019.
