Two partners of the LIFE FUTURE project, namely Las Naves for the city of Valencia and the city of Koprivnica, were tasked to run a real-life testing of the GUF Tool by purchasing urban furniture through a green public procurement facilitated by the GUF Tool.

This is how 71 new benches have appeared in the street of Valencia last August 2018. Made of 100% of recycled material, these benches have been installed by the Department of Renewable Energies and Climate Change of Valencia City Council. This purchase is expected to be a first green public procurement pilot that will encourage other green procurement processes of the municipality. The city of Koprivnica started its test process in September 2018. A first public procurement was launched for 10 benches made of combination of wood and metal while the second one enabled the acquisition of 30 waste bins made from the same combination of materials. Following the buying process, which will be finished by mid-October, the urban furniture acquired using the GUF Tool will be placed in the renovated streets and the most frequent locations in Koprivnica.

Thanks to these two pilot purchases, the added value of the GUF Tool was validated as it facilitated both the selection of relevant environmental criteria to be included in the bid and the evaluation of the products offered by the manufacturers.

This action was one of the last steps of the LIFE FUTURE project which will come to an end in December 2018. The final issue of the LIFE FUTURE newsletter is currently being prepared summarising all the outcomes of the project. Do not forget to subscribe online to make sure to receive it.
