According to the Mayor of the Bulgarian capital city Sofia (and ACR+ Member), an 80% recycling and utilisation of waste rate has been planned and is now a target for the city. This comes after the establishment of the biggest waste management installation thus far, along with the finalisation of the construction of an integrated waste processing system, which includes a modern waste depot, two installations for green and food waste processing.

The mayor also spoke on the results which have already been seen from these facilities including; electricity production and high-quality compost, which is demanded and realised at the market through the country. The installations provide maximum opportunities for waste recycling, which provides for 50% waste recycling rate. In addition to this other plans are under way in order to facilitate the 80% waste recycling and utilisation target.
