The Sofia Municipality, an ACR+ member, just placed its first permanent textile containers. The 20 containers are part of the system for collecting and treating textile waste, which Sofia started developing in early 2019.

The goal is gradually to build a sustainable system for the collection and subsequent treatment of this type of waste, similar to the other 12 systems for collecting different waste streams in Sofia, which are successfully operating. These include packaging, green waste, electrical and electronic equipment, hazardous waste, batteries, accumulators and end-of-life vehicles.

The textile waste collected in the permanent containers will be transported by specialised companies for treatment in designated sites, where it will undergo the separation process.
