ACR+ member Barcelona Metropolitan Area (AMB) has presented new waste collection models that are now being implemented in several metropolitan municipalities. A 4 million euro grant has been awarded to the city councils of AMB to facilitate the design of some twenty projects modifying the systems of waste collection. The objective of the aid is to increase the selective collection, already during this year 2018 to reach 60% of waste selectively collected in the metropolitan area in 2025. 6 municipalities are already meeting the 50% target of recycling set for Europe in 2020.

The typologies of the projects are diverse, some are related to the application of smart technologies in the collection, others have opted for domestic door-to-door collection or for the implementation or extension of the selective collection of commercial waste.
