ACR+ member ORDIF published a brief study focusing on an estimate of jobs created in the municipal waste management sector in Île-de-France region. According to the publication, the waste sector in general is the largest employer in the green economy. It creates nearly 24,000 jobs in Île-de-France region. However, from the currently available statistics it is not possible to identify the segments in which the workforce is concentrated. In order to fill in this gap, ORDIF developed a methodology that allows local authorities to determine direct and indirect employment as well as its potential in the household waste and public waste management sectors.

The study on direct and indirect employment presents technical and economical modelling which goes beyond the statistical approach. It is based on various indicators which link waste management schemes, direct and indirect costs as well as environmental expenditure of local authorities.
