Within the framework of the EUROCITIES conference, the official award ceremony Circle it! for best practices in circular economy was held on 16 November 2017.

In the Innovation category the finalist were Almere, Brussels Capital Region and Lille Metropole Europeenne. The jury decided to declare ACR+ member Brussels Capital Region the winner for its project “Be Circular – Be Brussels”.

”Be Circular – Be Brussels” is designed to support entrepreneurs and businesses in Brussels in developing innovative projects that integrate circular economy concepts while also creating local jobs. Following the first call in 2016, 85 project ideas were received, of which 41 were funded, creating 30 jobs. The projects included an online platform that aims to mutualise goods with a low rate of use within a community of members, as well as a service that aims to collect and resell hardware and technological devices.

The jury stated in its justification: “Be Circular, Be Brussels” is an initiative which supports entrepreneurs, start-ups and businesses in the development of innovative “circular” business ideas. The judges were impressed by the innovative way the initiative engages its stakeholders in its promotion, ultimately making it more credible among its target audience, the private sector. This project integrates the concepts of the circular economy in new businesses, benefiting the environment and creating jobs.
