ACR+ member Cercle National du Recyclage organised its 16th Forum entitled “Recycling: engine of the social and ecological transition? Testimonies and feedbacks” on 21 September 2017.

Baptiste Legay, representative of the Ministry of Ecology, Sustainable Development and Energy, presented the latest regulatory developments in the field of the circular economy in France. Following that, Jean-Patrick Masson, President of the Cercle National du Recyclage, gave an overview of local actions implemented to promote recycling and the circular economy. Views were then exchanged on the need to improve recycling and develop the circular economy.  In particular, the Cercle National du Recyclage has called for the introduction of an incentive tax for waste collection and treatment in the framework of circular economy.

The first roundtable discussed three concrete examples of territorial circular economy:

  • paper recycling by the SMITRED OUEST Armor;
  • collection and recycling of door frames by the Syndicat mixte des Vosges;
  • as well as separate collection of food waste for valorisation in Paris.

The second roundtable discussed the issue of employment in link with modernisation of sorting centres. During the debate, Arielle Francois, vice-president of the Cercle National du Recyclage, presented the experience of extending sorting instructions made by the Syndicat Mixte du Département de l’Oise. Other experiences were also presented, such as a review of plastic waste extension by Citeo, a study on restructuring sorting centers by ADEME, and a successful example fo restructuring of several sorting centres realised by SOTRAVAL.

Several presentations made during that day are available online (in French).
