Urban REC 3 ENG small

Between 19 and 23 February 2018 the URBANREC project partners gathered for an intensive full week of meetings and events in Kortrijk and Mechelen, Belgium. The week started off with company visits of two of the hosting partners: Vanheede’s recycling unit for mattresses, carpets and plastics, and Procotex’ head office and production unit specialising in the recycling of textile waste. Furthermore, the partners also had a tour of the VKC plastics processing division of Centexbel.

On 21 February 2018, an exploitation seminar with an external expert was held to discuss the concrete project results and help the partners in the planning of relevant exploitation routes and strategies.

On 23 February 2018, two events took place in parallel: a technical workshop and a networking event. The first results regarding fibre reinforced composites from recycled textile and plastic urban waste were presented to an industrial and business audience during the technical workshop. The parallel networking event was targeting public bodies and the wider public by presenting the different activities developed within the project to reduce bulky waste in Flanders – including the dismantling service, mobile application and the customer portal.

During the week, the consortium further held an internal meeting to take stock of the results obtained so far and to plan the upcoming activities. It also had a successful first evaluation with the European Commission during which the European Project officer congratulated the achievements reached so far.
